WALNUT, BLACK: Juglans nigra Black walnut can be found growing throughout the Eastern U.S. The heartwood rangesin color from a pale, gray-brown to a deep chocolate-brown. The sapwood is a pale white. Black walnut is decay resistant but susceptible to insect attack. It is a popular domestic choice for furniture, cabinetry, moldings, gunstocks, veneers and interior paneling.
