Description

POPLAR, BALSAM: Populus balsamifera Poplar grows throughout the entire Northeastern region of the U.S. It is one of the thirteen species of Cottonwood. The wood is pale and creamy in color and has an indistinguishable grain pattern. The heartwood is sometimes streaked with patches of olive green. It is lightweight, strong and very workable. The availability and low price of the lumber make it a popular choice for many applications. Common uses include cabinetry, face frames, molding and crate-building. Poplar weighs in at 23 lbs. per cubic foot. Janka scale: 540
